Brooklyn Junior Cricket Club prides itself on its inclusivity and making cricket available to all our young people! No matter your child’s age, or cricketing experience, please contact the club and see what cricket is available to your young person.
Junior Cricket is for young people in school years 2-8. Grades align to school year, eg. children in Year 3 at school (at the beginning of the cricket season) will play Grade 3 junior cricket for the season.
Soft ball Dual Pitch cricket is played by Grades 2 to 4 (Years 6 to 8). Check out this youtube Lego demonstration video
Children in Year 1 and below begin with First Hits, a fun family focused introduction to cricket on a Sunday morning. Over 30 youngsters started their cricket journeys through First Hits in season 2023/24! Check out NZC’s video here
Girls can choose to play Saturday in mixed grades, Sunday in girls’ only, or in both formats. More information on Girls’ cricket here. These games are great for groups of friends.
Across all grades there is a strong emphasis on player enjoyment, and rules are structured to provide every player an equal opportunity (all children bat and bowl for designated periods). Children in Grades 4 and below play using a soft ball, while hard ball cricket is introduced at Grade 5.
